Gaushala

Sheltering of old, unproductive and abandoned cows in traditional cow shelters (gaushalas) is an ancient practice in India. Vinay Gurji venerates cows as mother goddesses. Shelters are funded by Guruji’s Mahatma Gandhi Seva Trust. He provides an interface between visitors, workers and cattle and is best able to understand the challenges of running shelters. There are about 200 cows of different breeds at the two gaushalas in Gowrigadde ashram. The cows are both adopted as well as rescued from slaughter houses.Volunteers of Guruji’s ashram under Guruji’s guidance and labourers take care of the cows.
